OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational Therapy, often abbreviated to OT, is an allied health profession that focuses on function and independence. Our OT team have specialist training and skills in the areas of motor function and sensory needs. Our OT team work with children, adolescents and adults, and the mode of service delivery can vary depend on the age and need of the client. They can work from either our clinic in JLT, through online consultation, or at a limited number of schools in Dubai. They can provide individualized services and/or services in groups.

When working with children, OTs look at all areas of participation that children engage in including play, school, sleep, activities of daily living (including dressing, feeding and toileting), social interaction and sleep. The goal of Occupational Therapy is to promote independence and successful engagement in activities which are meaningful to the child. Our OTs have a range of experience and training in working with children with a variety of difficulties including: sensory regulation, motor strength and coordination, emotional regulation, attention and concentration, visual perceptual and visual spatial skills, handwriting, and executive function. Dubai Health Authority Autism guidelines, published in 2021, cite OT as an evidenced based, non-pharmacological intervention for autism spectrum.

When working therapeutically with adolescents and adults, OTs use consultation, counselling and specifically designed activities to target particular skills for the person. Therapy can be delivered at our specialist psychology clinic in JLT that offers privacy and comfort. Our OTs have a range of experience and training in working with adolescents and adults with a variety of difficulties including sensory regulation and executive function needs.
